On June, 3, the CSAL delegation visited the University of Agriculture in Godollo and had a meeting with specialists involved in the translation of AGROVOC Thesaurus into Hungarian. Dr. Laszlo Papocsi made a presentation on the development of GAKNET in Hungary and described the experience of creation of the first version of Hungarian AGROVOC.

The Godollo Agribusiness Division of St Stephen University, Godollo, Hungary will accommodate a regional training workshop for portal managers and coordinators of thematic communities in the AW Network. The organiser will also define the structure and functionalities of the Content Management System (CMS) empowered version of AgroWeb pages; install the selected CMS on the AgroWeb CEE server; and customize AgroWeb National, Regional and Thematic pages to the CMS format while the participants will prepare and/or modify from existing sources a set of resource materials for the training workshop on the installation of the CMS and the conversion of existing design and structure into CMS enabled pages

AGROVOC E-Conference, May - June 2007

The aim of this conference is to bring AGROVOC users together to share what they would like to see improved in AGROVOC and the direction it should take. The E-Conference will allow people from all the different corners of the world, who otherwise might not be able to travel to regular meetings on AGROVOC, to voice their ideas and thoughts for the betterment of AGROVOC. The ultimate goal of the conference is to assess the direction the work on development of AGROVOC as a thesaurus and a concept server should take.

FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia to open in Budapest

Agreement also sets up FAO Shared Services Centre 27 March 2007, Budapest/Rome - FAO and the Government of Hungary today signed an agreement to open two new FAO offices in Budapest, Hungary. The FAO Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia and the FAO Shared Services Centre will join the Organization�s Subregional Office for Central and Eastern Europe, which has operated in Budapest since 1996.

AGROVOC is now available in Hungarian!

The latest release of the AGROVOC Thesaurus has now been updated on the AIMS web site. Together with new concepts and revision of existing ones, the Thesaurus is now also available in Hungarian. The Hungarian version is released by the G�d�llo Agribusiness Centre and has 16486 Descriptors and 9859 Non-descriptors. Any inquiries regarding the Hungarian version of AGROVOC should be directed to Dr. L�szl� G�bor Pap�csi (lpapocsi[at]gak.hu).

Translation of AGROVOC thesaurus was started 2 years ago, 98% of terms were translated by 15 May 2005, under support from ITEM Project, co-financed by the Hungarian Ministry for Information and Communication. Proof reading and checking of problematic terms was concluded only by the middle of 2006. The majority of the work was done by experts of the National Agricultural Library, Ministry of Agriculture EU department, and the EU Studies Center Depositary Libray of St Stephen University.
